Since the genesis of the health crisis, we have heard a lot about mental and physical health. Concerns about these issues are now inevitable. Generally, we associate these two concepts with working conditions, well-being, muscle tension, stability between professional and personal life... It is a total transformation. But how important is it to be mentally and physically healthy?
Mental and physical health: what you need to know
Before discovering the importance of these two concepts, it is essential to understand the meaning of each of them. According to the definition given by the WHO in relation to mental health, we can distinguish 4 elements. Thus, mental health is a state of well-being that enables everyone to:
- To realise one's potential ;
- To cope with the normal problems of life;
- To work successfully and productively;
- To be able to contribute to the needs of the community.
Mental health is therefore about finding stability between the state of well-being and the ability to withstand life's difficulties. It concerns all normal people regardless of age, gender or social status.
As for physical health, it is this capacity to develop physical activity in order to remain dynamic. Physical health consists of increasing sedentary and occupational physical activity.
The importance of mental health and physical health
To begin with, it is important to understand that the two concepts are very much linked. If you have a mental disorder, physical illnesses can surface. That is, when mental health is affected, physical health is also affected. It is important to find a balance between the two.
Mental health allows for personal fulfilment; for autonomy. It frees us from mental disorders, psychological suffering, anxiety, stress, psychological illnesses...
Physical health allows one to work in adequate conditions and considerably reduces accidents at work. Both mental and physical health have a positive impact on business activity.
